Ethics defined:
1. how we distinguish between right and wrong , or good and
evil in relation to the actions, violations, and character of
human beings (ciulla).
2. System off rules or principles that guide us in making
decisions about what is right or wrong and good or bad in a particular situation (northouse).
As professionals, educators have a unique opportunity and a special responsibility to contribute to the improvement of quality of teaching and learning in education. As members of the academic community, faculty are subject to all the codes of conduct and ethical guidelines that already exist for ball state university. PFLA goes above and beyond and sets ethical guidelines that strive for excellence in leadership for educators at ball state university (podnetwork).
Ethical Guidelines PFLA sets for professional faculty:
-model ethical behavior with co-workers and their subordinates
-seek out knowledge, skills and resources continually to understand and expand their practice
-consult with other professionals when professor lacks the experience
-incorporate diverse points of view
-allow no personal or private interests to conflict or appear to conflict with professional duties or subordinates needs
-be receptive to different styles and approaches to teaching and learning
-work against harassment and discrimination of any kind, including race, ethnicity, gender, class, religion, sexual orientation, disability, age, nationality, etc.
-contribute ideas, experience, and knowledge to colleagues
-work positively for the development of individuals and the profession
-be an advocate for their institutional and professional missions
